CARE-PAC, the political action committee for Care Providers of Minnesota, recently endorsed Barb Haley for the Minnesota House of Representatives in District 21A. Haley's support of—and interest in—long-term care for the growing senior demographic was the primary reason she earned the CARE-PAC endorsement. "Our dedicated long-term care professionals are proud to support Barb Haley" said Patti Cullen, President and CEO of Care Providers of Minnesota. "Barb Haley understands our state's long-term care issues, the need to expand our workforce, and the personal financing challenges facing seniors receiving long-term care services and supports. In addition, she has a deep commitment to maintaining Minnesota's reputation for high-quality long-term care—wherever that care is provided." Cullen stated "It is essential that our elected officials commit to funding the needs of our seniors so that providers can continue to provide the quality of care that our seniors deserve and expect. With 60,000 Minnesotans turning 65 every year for the next 15 years, it is critical that our elected officials prioritize funding for senior care in their work. Nursing facilities, assisted living settings, and home care providers struggle to hire experienced, quality caregivers in their settings—caregivers who are the cornerstone to providing quality care for Minnesota's seniors. It is up to lawmakers to invest in these jobs and the caregiving profession for today's seniors and the 25% of Minnesotans who will be age 65 or older in the next decade. " "We are excited to endorse Barb Haley to continue supporting caregivers and quality care and to continue our partnership with elected officials into the future." Sept. 27, 2016 Barb Haley Endorsed by State’s Leading Small Business Group in House District 21A Race NFIB Minnesota SAFE Trust announced their endorsements today in several key races. The political action committee formed by Minnesota’s most influential small business group, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), enthusiastically endorsed Barb Haley today in her race for the Minnesota House in district 21A. “Thanks in part to Barb Haley’s support of financing state government within its current resources, conforming Minnesota's estate tax exemption to the federal and significantly reducing business property taxes for small businesses, she scored a perfect 100% on our candidate questionnaire. Considering Minnesota has one of the highest income tax rates in the country and a legislature with a spending problem, Barb’s voice is certainly needed in St. Paul,” according to NFIB Minnesota state director, Mike Hickey. “Additionally, Barb’s commitment to eliminating the automatic escalator clause which will drive the current $9.50 minimum wage even higher demonstrates her willingness to advocate for small businesses and help create additional jobs in our state, especially for young people. Finally, she also supports legislation to protect business from predatory lawsuits over alleged violations of the state’s public accommodation laws (ADA-type lawsuits) and many other proposals to help small business.”
Note that Haley’s endorsement comes from NFIB’s Save America’s Free Enterprise Trust (SAFE), the association’s political action committee, and is based on positions regarding keysmall-business issues including health care, taxes, and labor and regulatory issues.
